Next Speaker:  Social Meeting!

We will be getting together tomorrow and having an opportunity to talk to our fellow Rotarians and enjoy ourselves, make a toast with complimentary Mimosa's and have a wonderful time! This is a chance to get to know everyone in the club.

Past Speaker:  David Griffith, Crowne Plaza

David Griffith

David Griffith, General Manager of the Addison Crowne Plaza. He spoke to us about his time with the Crowne Plaza (he is actually a partner and the General Manager), how he started there back when it was Harvey House, later to become Harvey Hotels and now Crowne Plaza. He explained the history of the franchise and how his is involved with it.

It was very interesting to learn that he goes back so far in our local history and has been with the hotel so long. He is a regular fixture in Addison and has been very involved in Addison politics. The hotel is now adding more meeting space, and Mr. Griffith showed us the plans for this space and explained how it would help get them more "heads in beds".

Mr. Griffith was a very entertaining speaker and kept the large turnout (even though he had been told it would be a small turnout!) engaged with his history in the hotel business. He also spoke to how they try to make sure they provide excellent food, something everyone in our club can attest to!

Raffle:  Every Week!

Show me the money!  We will have a “BIG JACKPOT” raffle drawing every week.  Here are the rules.

-          The drawing will be held every week after the speaker concludes.  Tickets can be bought up to that time.  $1 for 1 ticket, $5 gets 6 tickets.

-          A ticket will be drawn at the end of the meeting.

-          But the weekly winner, will not automatically get the jackpot.  To ensure we have a BIG JACKPOT, we then ask the winner to draw the “winning card” from a standard deck of 52 cards.  If they pull the “winning card”, they get the BIG JACKPOT.

-          How do we determine the “winning card”?  After the jackpot is won, we will draw one card from a standard deck of 52 cards.  That card becomes the “winning card.”  It is reinserted into the deck.

-          If a non-winning card is drawn by the weekly drawing winner, that card is discarded.  This means the odds of drawing the “winning card” will improve every week as the BIG JACKPOT grows.

-          The jackpot is rolled over every week until the “winning card” is drawn.

-          The value of the BIG JACKPOT will be reported in the newsletter.

-       Half of the winning pot goes to the Addison Midday Rotary Foundation.
