He is presently a part of the addison Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol and is Counter Drug Mission Qualified. We look forward to finding out what Bob can tell us about security!
Last Speaker: Allen G. Reuben, M.D.
Dr. Allen G. Reuben is widely recognized and highly respected in the field of infectious disease, having consistently delivered quality care to the Dallas area since 1990. He is a true "doctor's doctor" who enjoys interacting with patients in a hospital setting, as well as in his office. Dr. Reuben spoke to us about H1N1 and how to combat it and who should get the vaccine.
It was interesting to find out that the most severe cases were found in those under 49 (but not really infants) and that older people were not as likely to get the flu. It is thought that they have antibodies from the 1958 flu (I should have been born earlier!).
Dr. Reuben wanted us to know that while most deaths associated with the flu were cases that had underlying health issues such as obesity, autoimmune diseases, respiratory issues, pregnancy, etc. If you are healthy, in most cases you have nothing to worry about. Although, he suggested everyone who gets the flu demand to be given Tamiflu. Some of the people that died from H1N1 without underlying diseases might have been saved if they had started on Tamiflu earlier. Even though the CDC does not recommend giving Tamiflu to people who are not in high risk categories, Dr. Reuben suggests you demand Tamiflu. He also said it you should still consider getting the H1N1 flu shot as the flu season is not even half way over.
