Speaker Profile:  Joe Chow, Mayor of Addison

 

 


Mayor Joe Chow

Joe Chow was born and raised in Taiwan before moving to the United States in in 1979. Upon his arrival Joe completed his MBA in Marketing at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1980.

 

Mayor Chow then applied his marketing and business acumen in the restaurant industry working for several businesses before opening his restaurant, May Dragon in Addison, in 1986. May Dragon is the only four star Chinese restaurant in the Dallas metroplex.

 

Never missing an opportunity to further his knowledge and diversify his business interests, Mayor Chow became a realtor for Jan's Realty in 2001 as well as an Agency Owner for Allstate Insurance in 2003.

 

With all of Mayor Chow's business activities, one can only wonder how he devotes so much time to so many community activities. He is a member of the Addison Business Association; Board Director of the World Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce; Board of Directors for the North Texas Commission; board Director for both the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of North America and its Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter, and he is Board Director for the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce.

 

Mayor Chow has been on the Addison City Council since 2002. He was elected Mayor Pro Tempore in 2004 before he was elected Mayor in May of 2005. Outsed of these activities, Mayor Chow enjoys his free time playing various sports and spending time with his four children and wife, Chi Chi.

Next Speaker Profile:  Caresse Bucchan (August 4) 

 

Caresse Bucchan has been involved with RYLA since she was a camper in District 5810 in 2004. She has returned as an alumni staff member since then. she has just recently graduated with a BS in Psychology and a BA in International Studies from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana and is a recent recipient of the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship to represent District 4910 in 2010. Caresse has just returned from International RYLA in Rugby, England. These experiences continue to fuel Caresse's passion for the worldwide changes that Rotary continues to make and hopes to one day work intensively for Rotary International with their Youth Programming.

Our new officers are Neil Hewitt - President, Chris Kellen - President Elect, Charles Collins - Secretary, Jeff White - Treasurer. Also on the Board are Bruce Arfsten - Program Director, Tracey Bruce - Service Projects,  Tom Walter - Sergeant of Arms, Newsletter and Publicity - Robin Moss

 

We also had awards presented to Hamid Khaleghipour - Service Above Self, John Johnstone - Rotarian of the Year, Tracey Bruce - Rookie of the Year and Jim Hill - Distinguished Service, congratulations one and all!
