Special Meeting:  Valentine's Day Bags for Metrocrest Kids!

Yes, instead of a speaker this week we will be using that time to fill bags with all kinds of fun things for the kids that utilize the services at Metrocrest. We have candy and pencils and other cool things that we can quickly get into bags with your help!

Think of how much fun you can have catching up with your fellow Rotarians while creating something wonderful for some children who would go without on Valentine's Day! This is an event you don't want to miss! We did this last Easter at the Police station and had a blast (okay, we couldn't have to much fun, we didn't want to get arrested!).

Past Speaker:  Audrey Rivera

Audrey Rivera

Audrey Rivera spoke to us about her passion and what she is involved with in her free time - the Christian Prison Ministries. CPM is the coordinator of cooperating ministries that have been allowed to operate a faith-based wing at the Beto Maximum Security Prison.

CPM is brining religion into the prison. Audrey told us a little about her own time in prison and the personal troubles in her life and how volunteering with CPM has helped her while she has helped so many others. She also told us some very encouraging statistics about their organizations. By bringing religion to the inmates they have been able to reduce recidivism dramatically! Audrey was a very interesting speaker.

Special Event:  March 10th, Food Drive

Our next special event will culminate on March 10th at Jewish Family Services, located at 5402 Arapaho Road (across from Walmart). We will be collecting food at our businesses and in our neighborhoods and then delivering and sorting the food on the 10th.

Look for more information in next week's newsletter and Tracey will be talking about it at the meeting on Tuesday. If you would like more information, please e-mail Tracey

Run Comments:  Neil Wants Your Comments

Neil is looking for your input on how the run was, well, run! If you have any input, please send e-mail Neil

Raffle:  Every Week!

Show me the money!  We will have a “BIG JACKPOT” raffle drawing every week.  Here are the rules.

-          The drawing will be held every week after the speaker concludes.  Tickets can be bought up to that time.  $1 for 1 ticket, $5 gets 6 tickets.

-          A ticket will be drawn at the end of the meeting.

-          But the weekly winner, will not automatically get the jackpot.  To ensure we have a BIG JACKPOT, we then ask the winner to draw the “winning card” from a standard deck of 52 cards.  If they pull the “winning card”, they get the BIG JACKPOT.

-          How do we determine the “winning card”?  After the jackpot is won, we will draw one card from a standard deck of 52 cards.  That card becomes the “winning card.”  It is reinserted into the deck.

-          If a non-winning card is drawn by the weekly drawing winner, that card is discarded.  This means the odds of drawing the “winning card” will improve every week as the BIG JACKPOT grows.

-          The jackpot is rolled over every week until the “winning card” is drawn.

-          The value of the BIG JACKPOT will be reported in the newsletter.

-       Half of the winning pot goes to the Addison Midday Rotary Foundation.
