Past Meeting:  Paul Markowitz, Senior Living Specialists

Paul Markowitz is the owner and principal of Senior Living Specialist, a Dallas-based company. Paul works with individuals and families in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex to help identify the best senior housing based on their individual needs. Paul's story starts when his 59 year old mother was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's in the fall of 2008. Paul's parents are divorced, his mother is an only child and his younger brother was a senior at UT when his mother was diagnosed and his job required 100% travel. So at the age of 26 he had to "figure out" what to do by himself.

Finding himself laid off this past April, he decided to use what he had gone through, trying to find the best living option for his mom, what to look for, the questions to ask; and take this and help other families through the most stressful situation of their lives. Paul started Senior Living Specialists in June of 2009 to be a NO-FEE service to the individual or family, the financial responsibility rests with the communities the senior is place in. Senior Living Specialist helps families to narrow down the choices based on a needs assessment, coaching the families on what to look for in each facility, providing the families with a list of questions that should be asked on the tour, and tips to ensure they get the best monthly financial rate possible.

Senior Living Specialist was recently featured on CBS News in Dallas, in the Dallas Morning News and the Texas Jewish Post.

Raffle:  Every Week!

Show me the money!  We will have a “BIG JACKPOT” raffle drawing every week.  Here are the rules.

-          The drawing will be held every week after the speaker concludes.  Tickets can be bought up to that time.  $1 for 1 ticket, $5 gets 6 tickets.

-          A ticket will be drawn at the end of the meeting.

-          But the weekly winner, will not automatically get the jackpot.  To ensure we have a BIG JACKPOT, we then ask the winner to draw the “winning card” from a standard deck of 52 cards.  If they pull the “winning card”, they get the BIG JACKPOT.

-          How do we determine the “winning card”?  After the jackpot is won, we will draw one card from a standard deck of 52 cards.  That card becomes the “winning card.”  It is reinserted into the deck.

-          If a non-winning card is drawn by the weekly drawing winner, that card is discarded.  This means the odds of drawing the “winning card” will improve every week as the BIG JACKPOT grows.

-          The jackpot is rolled over every week until the “winning card” is drawn.

-          The value of the BIG JACKPOT will be reported in the newsletter.

-       Half of the winning pot goes to the Addison Midday Rotary Foundation.
