Past Speaker:  Jennifer Riley, Credit Scores: Demystifying the Mystery

Jennifer Riley

Jennifer Riley came and spoke to us about credit scores, credit reports, changes in the mortgage qualifications and all of the ramifications therein. Jennifer was a fabulous speaker that let us know that many things have changed now that the law Congress passed is going to start helping us on 2/22/10. While credit card companies cannot just randomly raise your rates, they can and will lower your available credit and probably raised your rate prior to the 22nd. Now that you have rights you need to know them.

To get a credit card you want to keep each credit card at about 50% of your available credit. You do not want to close credit cards in most cases because it reduces your amount of available credit. If you are looking to buy a house you want to keep your credit cards at 30%. Credit card companies think that if you have too much available credit they should not give you more. Mortgage companies think you have restraint and will be willing and able to pay their mortgage!

If you have any concerns or issues and want to talk to Jennifer, or better yet if you are looking to refinance or to get a mortgage on a home new to you, you can contact Jennifer at 214.675.1160 or e-mail her at JenniferERiley@aol.com

Raffle:  Every Week!

Show me the money!  We will have a “BIG JACKPOT” raffle drawing every week.  Here are the rules.

-          The drawing will be held every week after the speaker concludes.  Tickets can be bought up to that time.  $1 for 1 ticket, $5 gets 6 tickets.

-          A ticket will be drawn at the end of the meeting.

-          But the weekly winner, will not automatically get the jackpot.  To ensure we have a BIG JACKPOT, we then ask the winner to draw the “winning card” from a standard deck of 52 cards.  If they pull the “winning card”, they get the BIG JACKPOT.

-          How do we determine the “winning card”?  After the jackpot is won, we will draw one card from a standard deck of 52 cards.  That card becomes the “winning card.”  It is reinserted into the deck.

-          If a non-winning card is drawn by the weekly drawing winner, that card is discarded.  This means the odds of drawing the “winning card” will improve every week as the BIG JACKPOT grows.

-          The jackpot is rolled over every week until the “winning card” is drawn.

-          The value of the BIG JACKPOT will be reported in the newsletter.

-       Half of the winning pot goes to the Addison Midday Rotary Foundation.
