District Governor John Curtis and RYLA Campers Daniel Garcia, Kiko Medrano and Walker Davis
JOHN CURTIS DG 2023-24 was born and raised in New Jersey. He attended Cornell University where he earned his
Batchelor and Master Degrees in Civil Engineering.

John held several engineering management positions which involved land development,
housing construction, golf course construction and ultimately, City Engineering and Public
Works Directorships in California cities.

John became a Rotarian during that time and after holding several positions on its board,
became President of the La Quinta Rotary. Because of their experience and interest in Youth
Exchange, John and Janie, now a Rotarian too, were appointed District Youth Exchange Co-
Directors.

A move to a new city meant joining a local Rotary Club and again a job-related move led to a
new club and soon, chartering a new Rotary Club. John became the Los Gatos Morning Rotary
Club’s second President, during Rotary’s Centennial year. During this exciting time John saw
the club double in size and become the District’s medium sized Club of the year.
John and Janie retired to Texas to be closer to their young grandson and John joined the
Rockwall Rotary Club. He held board positions and became District co leader for Interact. That
eventually led to becoming District Youth Services Director, an Assistant Governor and DDF
Director, all positions that helped John better understand the ways and means of Rotary. John
and Janie attended an international outreach program to Nicaragua and delivered books to
schools in Jamaica during the service part of the District Conference Cruise to the Caribbean.
Additionally, John held leadership positions on Boards in the City of Heath, the Boys and Girls
Club, Church Vestry and men's groups, the local HOA and in housing development.

After joining Rotary thirty-five years ago to meet friends and improve business connections,
John has made Rotary service an important aspect of his life. As Major Donors, John and Janie
see the goals of Rotary as their goals too and hope for success in all areas of Rotary. It is very
exciting to focus on President Gordon’s call to ‘Create Hope in the World’.
Together we can make a difference!
